Master Bread Recipe List

If you're looking for a master list of bread recipes, covering everything from sweet to savory, keep reading! I'm excited to share some of my personal favorites in this post.

Bread. . .the Universal Comfort Food

Bread is a universal comfort food that transcends cultures and cuisines.

I'm crazy about all sorts of breads but I'm partial to artisan loaves and French bread. Yum. Any why not? Bread makes everything better.

From soft, fluffy rolls to crusty artisan loaves, to my delicious homemade sourdough, bread serves as the perfect base for meals.

You can dunk bread into a bowl of soup, eat it with salad, or have it as a snack. The warm, homemade aroma of baked bread evokes feelings of nostalgia, making it a staple at family gatherings and celebrations. (Can you imagine showing up at a family dinner without bread? I didn't think so!)

You get the point. I love bread. And I have a feeling you do too. Otherwise you probably wouldn't be perusing this list!

So, what types of breads will I cover in this post? Let's break it down:

Quick Breads

Quick breads are a type of baked good that doesn’t require yeast. Instead, quick breads rely on baking soda, baking powder, or both as leavening agents. When you skip the yeast you can also skip the rising time. In other words, quick breads are, well, quick. These bread don't require kneading, which makes them doubly quick. Quick breads can be sweet, like banana bread, pumpkin bread, and muffins, or savory, such as cornbread, soda bread, and herb bread. We've got quite a list, as you will see!

Proofed Breads

"Proofed" breads require yeast or sourdough starter as the leavening agent, as opposed to baking soda or powder. Yeast (or starter) causes the sugars in the dough to produce carbon dioxide, which allows the bread to rise and develop its airy texture and rich flavor. This is called fermentation and it takes place during the "proofing" phase, which can take several hours.

(Patience, friend! It's worth the wait!)

Unlike quick breads, yeasted breads require kneading to build gluten and time for proofing, which makes the process longer. But trust me when I say it's so rewarding! Common types of proofed breads include white bread, whole wheat, sourdough, brioche, and pizza dough.

Basic ingredients are flour, yeast, water or milk, salt, and optional sweeteners or fats. The process involves mixing, kneading, rising, shaping, proofing, and baking to create delicious, versatile breads.

Proofed breads can be savory or sweet, and in our list below you'll find both.

Store-Bought Doughs

Whether we're talking canned biscuits, crescent rolls, or other types of store-bought doughs, these simple "cheats" can bake up lovely items like Monkey Bread, Pull-Apart Bread, and so much more!

So, what are we waiting for? Let's look at some delicious bread recipes.
