If you love cinnamon, sugar, and buttery biscuits, have I got a treat for you! In this post I’m going to show you how to make this simple but delicious recipe!
Cinnamon and Sugar go Together!
Cinnamon and sugar are a classic flavor combination. Here are a few reasons why folks love them together.
- Complementary flavors: Cinnamon has a warm, sweet, and slightly spicy flavor with a hint of bitterness, while sugar provides a pure sweetness. When combined, the sweet and spicy notes of cinnamon enhance the natural sweetness of sugar, creating a balanced and pleasing flavor profile. (Yum, y’all!)
- Textural appeal: The combination of cinnamon and sugar can also provide a pleasant textural experience. When sprinkled on the surface of baked goods like muffins or cakes, the sugar can create a slightly crunchy, caramelized crust that contrasts nicely with the softness of the baked item. I’ve used this combination in so many of my recipes in the past, including my Cake Mix Cinnamon Roll Pastries (https://outoftheboxbaking.com/2022/06/10/cake-mix-cinnamon-roll-pastries-with-cinnamon-glaze/) and my Cinnamon Sugar Pound Cake (https://outoftheboxbaking.com/2022/05/23/cinnamon-sugar-pound-cake-from-scratch/)
- Memory and nostalgia: For many people, the taste and aroma of cinnamon and sugar evoke precious memories of home-baked treats, holiday desserts, or cozy moments with loved ones.
Cinnamon Sugar Knot Ingredients
You will find a full printable recipe card at the bottom of this post but here’s a quick peek at what you’ll need. These are simple ingredients you might already have on hand in your pantry or refrigerator.
- 1 tube Grands biscuits
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1/3 cup butter
How to make Cinnamon Sugar Knots
This recipe comes together so easily and quickly, y’all!
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Prepare a 10” round pan by spraying with Baker’s Joy or other nonstick spray.
Combine sugar and cinnamon in a bowl and mix well. Set aside.
Open biscuit container.
Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, divide each biscuit into thirds.
Roll biscuit dough into logs (about 4” long). You won’t need a rolling pin for this. Just use your palms!
Toss strips of dough in cinnamon-sugar mixture.
Braid knots.
Roll each braid and tuck and pinch the ends together. (Alternatively you can tie dough in a simple slip knot.)
Place in greased pan. If you like, you can bake these in a prepared muffin tin. You can add an egg wash to the top of each knot if you like but it’s not critical. (It will just cause a more golden color.)
Put into preheated oven and bake for 12 – 15 minutes or until golden brown.
Place on wire cooling rack to cool down.
Make your topping
While knots are baking, make your topping.
Take remaining cinnamon sugar mixture (you should still have at least half of it) and add the butter.
Place in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir well.
If you need to cook it for another 30 seconds to get it to come together, do that.
Stir well.
When knots come out of the oven spoon the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the top of the knots.
Serve warm (but not hot). You need time for the topping to stick to the knots.
Store in an air-tight container (or covered in plastic wrap) at room temperature. They should stay fresh for 2-3 days. I don’t recommend freezing these.
What to Expect from these Cinnamon-Sugar Knots
They’re light, they’re fluffy, and they’re absolutely packed with cinnamon and sugar! These are as delicious as cinnamon rolls, but without the hassle! Talk about a great recipe, (the perfect sweet treat)! It’s my new favorite.
The texture and the flavors merge to form a delicious over-the-top dessert. Or, if you prefer, eat these for breakfast! They’ll be a family favorite at your next brunch, for sure.
No matter when you serve them, they’re going to be well received by your family or guests. And this is a great way to turn a simple can of biscuits into something extraordinary.

Variations on this Easy Cinnamon Knots Recipe
I love this recipe just like it is, in part because it’s so simple. That said, there are ways to change things up a little. Here are some suggestions:
Donut Knots: Make these into donuts but thinning out the logs, rolling in longer braids, and forming into donut-like circles with a hole in the middle before baking. Talk about a delicious breakfast dish.
Raisins: If you like, you can press some raisins into the knots before baking.
Brown sugar: You can replace the white sugar with brown, if you like.
Cream cheese frosting: Want to make these even more cinnamon roll like? Simple! Pour a cream cheese frosting (or glaze) over them before serving.
Melted butter with cinnamon and sugar: You can skip the step of rolling them in cinnamon and sugar and simply pour a cinnamon sugar butter on top after they bake if you’re in a hurry.
Air fryer cinnamon sugar knots: I haven’t tried it yet but I’m guessing you could easily make these in your air fryer.
Homemade pizza dough: You can use homemade or store bought pizza dough as a substitute for the biscuits, if you like. You can even use my Tangzhong Milk Bread recipe if you don’t mind waiting while the dough rises.
Pre-made pizza dough: You can use a store bought pre-made dough if you like. Crescent rolls will work, too.
If you like these, you’ll love my garlic knots! That’s a similar recipe but it calls for an Italian seasoning in place of the cinnamon sugar one.
