Simple 2-Ingredient Biscuits

If you’re looking for the world’s simplest but most delicious biscuit, you’ve come to the right place! These light, fluffy biscuits are incredibly fast and easy to make and packed full of flavor and texture.

Two Ingredients? Really?

That’s what I said when my friend told me about these biscuits. I couldn’t imagine a biscuit without shortening or butter, first off. And I rarely bake with self-rising flour, so I wasn’t sure about that part, either. In the end, I had to apologize to my friend for doubting her. I might have even said, “These are the best biscuits I’ve ever made” along with “I’ll be making them this way from now on.”

And I wasn’t lying! Later that week I cooked breakfast for a group of senior citizens and guess what I made? I doubled the recipe and made these same biscuits, along with sausage gravy. Absolutely delicious!

What is Self-Rising Flour?

Self-rising flour is a popular type of flour that already contains baking powder and salt, which makes it perfect (and convenient) for quick breads, biscuits, and other baked goods. Self-rising flour (as the name implies) eliminates the need to add a separate leavening agent, which ensures consistent results. Typically made from a softer, lower-protein wheat, it produces tender and fluffy textures.

How to Make Your Own Self-Rising Flour

This recipe calls for self-rising flour. But don’t fret if you only have all-purpose! To make your own self-rising flour, simply combine 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1 ½ teaspoons of baking powder, and ¼ teaspoon of salt. Whisk the ingredients together thoroughly to ensure even distribution. This homemade version works as a substitute in recipes that call for self-rising flour, (including this one) giving your baked goods the right lift and texture. Store any extra in an airtight container for future use.

Two-Ingredient Biscuits Ingredients

You will find a full printable recipe card at the bottom of this post but here’s a quick look at what you’ll need to make these easy biscuits. These are simple ingredients you likely have on hand. If not, they are available at any grocery store.

  • 2 cups self rising flour (plus more for prep surface)
  • 1 ½ cups heavy whipping cream cream

If you like, you can brush the biscuits with whisked egg before baking.

How to Make 2-Ingredient Biscuits

Preheat oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.

Place a sheet of parchment paper on baking sheet and set aside.

Sift flour into large bowl. Add whipping cream.

Mix (by hand or with dough hook) only until the dough comes together. You don’t want to over-mix or the biscuits will be tough.

Flour your workspace. Place biscuit dough on the floured space and press with palms until you get it the thickness you like. (Mine were about an inch and a half because I wanted taller biscuits.) No rolling pin necessary, though you're certainly welcome to use one if you feel more comfortable. Just be sure to flour it first.

Use a circle cutter to cut out the biscuits. Place biscuits on parchment-lined cooking sheet or greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

If you like, you can whisk an egg and brush on the tops of the biscuits but this isn’t necessary.

Place in preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove from oven and place on wire rack to cool.

Serve and enjoy!

Store leftovers at room temperature. They should stay good for 2-3 days.

What to Expect from These Biscuits

This is just what you hope for in a good southern biscuits recipe, y'all!

They’re light, they’re crisp, they’re tall, they’re fluffy, they’re everything! Seriously! They have a lovely texture that I fell in love with right away. And the flavor was just right. I can’t recommend these biscuits enough, especially if you’re in a hurry. They come together in minutes (and they’re stress-free minutes).

Ways to Change These Up

Make buttermilk biscuits by adding a teaspoon of vinegar or lemon juice to the heavy whipping cream.

Drop biscuits: Make drop biscuits from this recipe if you like. Simply drop spoonfuls of dough onto the parchment lined baking sheet. No lightly floured surface necessary!

How to Serve these Simple 2-Ingredient Biscuits

There are so many ways to serve biscuits. Here are a few of my favorites:

Biscuits and gravy: Make a simple milk gravy or add sausage or ground beef. Gravy is perfect with these biscuits!

Chicken Pot Pie: These would be perfect on top of a lovely chicken pot pie. (Yum!)

Garlic Knots: Use this recipe to make garlic knots!

Monkey Bread: Use this recipe to make your favorite Monkey Bread.

Scones: This recipe is perfect for scones! Just add a bit of sugar and roll dough into a large circle, then cut into triangles. Serve with a simple glaze.

Biscuits with butter and jam: Is there anything finer?

The possibilities are endless!

I will have to give this a try, seen it a few times, but am always hesitant to try if I do not know that its a tried and tested recipe. Way too many 'fake' recipes floating around. Just visited Miz Helen's Full Plate Thursday and WOW, such a great links! Here’s what I’m sharing: #51+52. Let’s make it a party!
