Celebrating Easter with Family, Faith, and Sweet Treats
For many families, Easter is about far more than baskets and chocolate bunnies. It’s a day filled with faith, celebration, and treasured traditions.
In our family, Easter has always been one of the most meaningful days of the year. For more than forty years our extended family has gathered together to celebrate. On the Saturday before Easter week, we meet up for a huge reunion-style meal where everyone brings something to share. The foods are great, but those desserts. . .y'all. There are no words.

The table is always overflowing with:
- homemade cakes
- cookies and cupcakes
- fruity spring desserts
- family favorites passed down for generations, including lots and lots of deviled eggs
After we eat, the kids run outside for the big Easter egg hunt while the adults chat and catch up. Sometimes we decorate cookies or cupcakes together, and the dessert table becomes just as much fun as the egg hunt.

Even though my own kids are grown (and their children are nearly grown) we still do the egg hunt every single year. The "rules" have changed a bit, but there's a pretty big motivation. Uncle Tim (my brother-in-law) stuffs the plastic eggs with moolah.
Hey, I might go out and hunt for eggs. . .if they would let me!
If you're planning your own Easter celebration, this guide will help you create a table full of festive treats and fun activities everyone will enjoy.

Creative Easter Cakes
If you're looking for something fun and whimsical, themed cakes can be a wonderful addition to your Easter table.
Garden Vegetable Cake

One of the most creative cakes you can make for spring is a garden-themed cake.
Imagine a cake decorated like a miniature vegetable garden, complete with edible garden beds filled with fondant vegetables.
You can decorate sections of the cake with:
- carrots
- pumpkins
- tomatoes
- peas
- eggplants
- lettuce
Crushed chocolate cookies make the perfect “garden soil,” and a fondant fence around the cake adds a charming farmhouse look. And here's the fun part: you can choose any flavor of cake you like. But I'm convinced my carrot-apple cake is the way to go.
This cake is especially fun for:
- Easter gatherings
- garden parties
- spring birthdays
- farm-themed celebrations
Kids love spotting all of the little vegetables hidden in the garden beds!
Succulent Garden Cakes & Trifles

Another creative spring dessert is a succulent-themed cake or trifle.
These desserts resemble tiny potted gardens, with buttercream or fondant succulents piped on top and chocolate cookie crumbs used as “soil.” I use Oreos in mine, and they are absolutely delicious!
These trifles are beautiful, surprisingly easy to decorate, and perfect for spring celebrations.
