Looking for baby shower dessert inspiration? Explore beautiful baby shower cakes, cookies, and sweet treat ideas for girls, boys, and gender reveal celebrations.

Baby showers have a special place in my heart.

All four of my daughters got married within four years of each other, and before long the grandbabies started arriving right on schedule.

These days I’m blessed with nine grandchildren, and along the way I’ve baked nearly every baby shower cake and birthday cake for the family. In many ways, I truly cut my teeth on baby shower cakes.

Those early little ones were a wonderfully forgiving audience while I was learning to decorate—after all, a one-year-old rarely complains about a slightly messy princess cake!

Over the years I’ve made hundreds of cakes for children, and baby shower cakes remain some of my very favorites. I also learned to make darling baby shower cookies using my [cut-out sugar cookie recipe] and [royal icing recipe], and many of my cakes start with my [best white cake from a boxed mix] or my [ultimate chocolate cake].

In this guide, I’m gathering baby shower cake ideas, cookie inspiration, and themed dessert ideas to help you create something sweet and memorable for the newest little blessing.

With that in mind, I've divided some of my favorites into three categories: girls, boys, and gender reveal. You're sure to find something perfect for your upcoming special occasion!

Baby Shower Cakes for Girls

When it comes to baby shower cakes for girls, there's a wide array of themes and designs to choose from, ranging from classic to modern and whimsical. Here are some delightful ideas for baby shower cakes tailored specifically for girls:

  1. Pink Princess: Embrace the princess theme with a cake adorned in shades of pink and featuring tiaras, castles, fairy-tale characters like Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty, and delicate floral accents. There's nothing sweeter than a pink on pink color scheme! Your little one will be the star of the show, even before her arrival.
  2. Floral Garden: Create a cake that resembles a blooming garden with cascading flowers, butterflies, ladybugs, and other garden critters. Incorporate an array of edible flowers in various colors to add a vibrant touch.
  3. Ballet Ballerina: Celebrate the elegance and grace of ballet with a cake featuring ballet shoes, tutus, and dancing ballerinas. Use soft pastel colors like pink, lavender, and mint green to evoke a sense of whimsy. Baby shower cake toppers will really make these cakes pop!
  4. Vintage Tea Party: Host a charming vintage tea party with a cake adorned in lace, pearls, and delicate teacups. Add floral patterns, doilies, and miniature fondant desserts like macarons or cupcakes for an elegant touch.
  5. Sweet Treats and Desserts: Showcase a variety of sweet treats and desserts on the cake, such as cupcakes, ice cream cones, lollipops, and candy. This playful theme is sure to delight guests of all ages.
  6. Parisian Chic: Transport guests to the streets of Paris with a chic and stylish cake inspired by the City of Light. Incorporate iconic Parisian motifs like the Eiffel Tower, French poodles, macarons, and chic fashion accessories.
  7. Woodland Creatures: Create an enchanting woodland-themed cake featuring adorable forest critters like owls, foxes, rabbits, and deer. Add rustic touches like tree bark, moss, and acorns for a whimsical forest vibe. This theme is great for a gender-neutral baby shower.

Remember to personalize the cake to suit the parents' tastes and preferences, whether they prefer a classic and elegant design or something more playful and whimsical. Adding thoughtful details and incorporating the baby girl's nursery theme can make the cake even more special for the occasion.

If you're expecting a darling little girl, these cakes are the way to usher her in! Over the years I've had so much fun designing and baking cakes to celebrate precious baby girls. Here are some of my very favorites. (By the way, many of these are tiered. If you need a big cake to feed a crowd, we've got multi-tiered ideas for you below!) I'm especially fond of the naked cake. I made my own cake topper out of baby shoes.

I've created some really unique designs for baby girls. Check these out! (And by the way, that baby bed really is a cake! The rails are made out of chocolate.)

Some of my favorite cakes have been what I call girly-girl cakes. Ribbons, bows, frills. . .you name it, I've made it! (Is there anything prettier than a pink tiered cake? Talk about the perfect choice!)

Baking for little ones is so fun and baby girl cakes are simply delightful. And don't underestimate a simple cake with pink sprinkles. Sometimes a little goes a long way!

Baby Shower Cookies for Girls

While cakes often steal the spotlight at a baby shower, cookies can be just as memorable. Decorated sugar cookies shaped like baby bottles, bibs, rattles, onesies, teddy bears, and tiny footprints make adorable party favors and dessert table fillers.

They’re also a wonderful way to tie in shower colors, nursery themes, or sweet little phrases for the new arrival. I've had a blast making baby shower cookies for girls, especially. They're so sweet!

Baby Boy Cakes

If you're hosting a baby boy shower, we've got you covered, I promise! There are a host of great ideas out there and we've got pictures of some of our favorites for your joyous occasion.

Baby shower cakes for boys come in a variety of designs and themes, often reflecting traditional or modern concepts associated with baby boys. Here are some popular ideas for baby shower cakes tailored specifically for boys:

  1. Blue Theme: Blue is often associated with baby boys, so cakes featuring various shades of blue are a classic choice. The cake can be decorated with blue frosting, fondant shapes like baby blocks, teddy bears, or toy cars. You'll notice in some of the pictures below that I've used different shades of blue in my cakes. I love seeing the variety of shades.
  2. Sports Theme: If the parents are sports enthusiasts or if they are expecting a future athlete, a sports-themed cake could be perfect. This might include decorations like fondant soccer balls, baseball bats, football helmets, or basketballs.
  3. Nautical Theme: Nautical-themed cakes are a timeless option for baby boys. Decorate the cake with elements like sailboats, anchors, seashells, or even cute sea creatures like whales or dolphins.
  4. Superhero Theme: If the parents are fans of comic books or superheroes, consider a cake featuring their favorite superhero characters or symbols. This could include iconic logos like Superman's "S," Batman's bat symbol, or Spider-Man's web.
  5. Jungle Safari Theme: Take a walk on the wild side with a jungle safari-themed cake. Incorporate fondant animals like lions, giraffes, zebras, and monkeys, along with lush greenery and jungle accents.
  6. Storybook Theme: Choose a beloved children's book as inspiration for the cake design. Themes like "Where the Wild Things Are," "Peter Rabbit," or "Winnie the Pooh" can be whimsical and charming for a baby boy's shower.

Remember to consider the parents' interests and preferences when selecting the theme for the baby shower cake. Personal touches and meaningful details can make the cake even more special for welcoming their little bundle of joy.

Let me start by showing you some of my favorite jungle/safari themed cakes.

Here are some of my personal favorites. Check out those baby footprints made out of sugar cookies! Cute and delicious! And check out the adorable cake topper on that Little Man cake! (I made that one to celebrate the arrival of my youngest grandson.)

Baby Boy Cookies

You'll use the same recipes and tutorials as before, but creating cookies for little boys? Well, that's a whole different animal! (And I do mean animal!)

Over the years I've painted hundreds of cookies for little boys. My favorite baby shower of all was for my youngest grandson, Isaac. I had such an amazing time baking for his "little man" theme.

He's now eight years old, believe it or not, but I still remember every detail of that shower, perhaps because it was the last of my grandbabies.

Gender Reveal Cakes & Cookies

These days, gender reveals usually happen in one of three main ways: through a sliced cake with a hidden pink or blue interior, through individual treats like filled cupcakes or cookies, or through a party moment such as balloons or confetti.

Dessert reveals remain especially popular because they’re sweet, memorable, and easy to tailor to the overall baby shower theme.

Gender Reveal Cookies

I've never been asked to "reveal" the baby's sex using cookies (not completely sure how I would go about that) but I've made a lot of pink and blue cookies over the years. Here are some favorites. (And take special note of the fortune cookies. They were a blast to dip in chocolate!)

That’s it for this post, friends!

I hope you enjoyed these cute baby shower cakes and cookies! I sure had a blast making them.
