Homemade Pizza Rolls
If you’re like I am, you love those little pizza rolls you can buy at the supermarket. They’re so tasty. I had those in mind as I stared at a container of puff pastry. Could I turn a simply roll of puff pastry into a homemade pizza roll?
That’s exactly what I set out to do. . .and it worked! I managed to pull off a delicious and simple treat that was even better than the store-bought version!
You’re going to love these, too. I promise! So, let’s don’t waste any more time. Let me show you what you’ll need to make these.
Puff Pastry Pizza Roll Ingredients
- ½ pound ground beef, cooked and drained
- 1 package pepperoni slices, chopped
- 4 sticks of string cheese (or 1 cup grated mozzarella)
- ½ jar pizza sauce
- Optional: Add other favorites like onion, peppers, mushrooms, etc.
- 1 package puff pastry
How to Make Puff Pastry Pizza Roll Ingredients
Place a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet.
Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
Cook the ground beef in a skillet.
Add chopped pepperoni and heat until it releases oils.
Add the pizza sauce and stir well.
Unroll puff pastry and roll out.
Cut into three rectangles.
Cut the cheese sticks into 1” pieces. You’ll need 18 pieces of cheese total.
Place the pieces of cheese on the rectangles.
Spread filling over the cheese.
Dampen the edges of the dough with a bit of water. (I brush mine on with a pastry brush.)
Fold over the dough and press down with fingertips.
Use the tines of a fork to crimp the edges of the dough.
Repeat this process on all three rectangles.
Use a pizza cutter to cut into pieces between the bits of cheese.
Press down hard with the pizza cutter to seal the edges or you’ll lose some of the sauce as they bake.
Separate out to give pieces on the parchment lined baking sheet to grow as they bake.
Place in preheated oven and bake for 15-17 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove and place cookie sheet on wire rack to cool.
Serve and enjoy!
Store in an airtight container in refrigerator. They should stay fresh for 3 - 4 days. I placed most of mine in the freezer to enjoy later. (You can freeze them up to two months.)
What to Expect from These Pizza Rolls
They’re crisp on the outside, dreamy on the inside, and packed so full of flavor. I can’t believe it took me this long to make these! I’m so very, very glad I did. They’re a little messy when they come out of the oven but I used a spoon to clean them up as they cooled. (I nudged the escaping sauce and cheese back in place.) All in all, I’d have to say this one is a real winner!
