Chocolate Covered Peanuts (Peanut Clusters)

If you love the salty goodness of peanuts but the creamy sweetness of chocolate, have I got a treat for you! These easy Chocolate Peanut Clusters are delicious and so easy to make. They will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth!

Making Candy is Easy!

I don’t know about you but I love simple recipes. Some of my favorites over the past year would include my Peanut Brittle, my Caramel Pecan Pralines, and my Peppermint Patties.

There are so many simple and yummy candies you can make at home. (Why run to the store to buy sweet treats when you can make them for pennies on the dollar?)

I was in the mood for chocolate and happened to have two cups of peanuts left over from my last brittle-making. So, I decided to whip up a batch of these easy-breezy peanut clusters.

Chocolate Covered Peanuts Ingredients

You will find a full printable recipe card at the bottom of this post but here’s a quick peek at what you’ll need. These are simple ingredients you likely have on hand in your kitchen.

  • milk chocolate chips (or semi-sweet chocolate chips, your choice)
  • coconut oil or vegetable oil
  • salted peanuts (roasted or other)
  • sprinkles (optional)

How to Make Chocolate Clusters

This is the simplest candy I’ve ever made! Whether you make dark chocolate peanuts or milk chocolate peanuts, you’re going to be thrilled with the result. Just follow these step-by-step instructions.

Start by placing a piece of wax paper down on a cookie sheet.

In a large microwave safe bowl, place the chocolate chips and oil.

Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each. Mine took a total of 2 1/2 minutes to melt. Check out that creamy milk chocolate!

Note: If you don’t have a microwave you can use the double boiler method. Some folks opt for the slow cooker.

Measure out 2 cups of salted roasted peanuts.

Dump them into the chocolate.

Mix well.

Using a medium cookie scoop, scoop out clusters of candy onto the wax paper (or parchment paper). Serving size can be your choice, of course. You just need enough peanuts to form a decent-sized cluster.

While the chocolate is still wet, add some colorful sprinkles.

Let the candies rest to harden. If you like, you can place them in the refrigerator for an hour or so.

Now they’re ready to serve!

Store in an airtight container at room temperature. There’s no need to refrigerate, but you’re perfectly welcome to do so. They should stay good for a week or two, regardless.

Candies can be frozen and thawed to eat later on but the consistency of the delicious peanuts might change. (Freeze in a freezer-safe container up to two months.)

It’s almost Easter and I think these would be really cute on a tray at an Easter gathering.

(Note: Make sure no one at the gathering has peanut allergies!)

They would also be great for family movie nights. In fact, it might be fun to have the kids help you make them before the movie begins. (Your family members are going to love this one!)

Now that I see how simple and inexpensive these are, I plan to make this great snack for my next special occasion! In fact, I’m thinking they would make a lovely movie night treat or even a great Christmas gift! (Adjust color of sprinkles accordingly.)

Variations on the Recipe for this Delicious Treat

Not a fan of peanuts? No worries! You can use this same method to cover walnuts, pecans, macadamia nuts, and so on.

Semisweet chocolate chips: Not a fan of milk chocolate? No problem. Semi-sweet chocolate chips are fine!

White chocolate: If you choose macadamia nuts, white chocolate might be a fun option.

Colored almond bark: If you want to prepare these for a particular holiday (say, Christmas) you might want to choose white almond bark and color it, using a coloring oil. You can even make these on a baking sheet without dividing them into clusters. Just break apart, as you would my peanut brittle.
