They’re crisp, they’re light, they’re packed full of flavor! These Savory Oyster Crackers are the perfect snack when you’re expecting a crew. Best of all, they’re super-duper easy to make!
What is an Oyster cracker?
If you’re not familiar with these tiny round crackers, you might wonder what they are. Basically, they’re saltines in a small round puffy form.
These little crackers are great for oyster stew (hence the name) or clam chowder. I also love them with a creamy potato soup. But they’re also great all by themselves. (Talk about an easy snack recipe!)
A few years ago I discovered this Oyster Crackers with Ranch recipe and made it for guests. One neighbor fell head-over-heels in love with it and I made a special point to create a batch just for him the following year. (Hey, it’s the little things!)

- garlic salt
- dill weed
How to Make Savory Oyster Crackers with Ranch
This is such an easy recipe, much like my Chex Mix recipe. In fact, this one is even easier than that! Best of all, you’ll make a great snack everyone will love!
Preheat oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
Prepare two cookie sheets with parchment paper.
Place oil, ranch dressing, garlic salt, and dill in a small bowl. (Must be a microwavable bowl.) Stir together until smooth.
Place oyster crackers in a large bowl and pour the oil mixture over them.
Stir well.
Put crackers on prepared baking sheets.
Spread the crackers out. (You want them to be single layer.)
Place in oven and bake for 15 minutes then remove and stir. Place back in the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
Remove and cool to room temperature on baking sheet.
Store in an air-tight container. (These are sturdy enough to store in a plastic bag, like Ziplock.)
What to Expect from These Oyster Crackers
Okay, can I just say. . .these are addictive! They’re that kind of snack you’ll keep nibbling on, no matter how hard you try to stop. I think they would be great on cheese boards (charcuterie board, anyone?) or given as gift in tiny treat bags!
These are also great with soup. I would love to try them with a delicious tomato basil soup!
The tang of the Ranch, the crunch of the cracker, the beautiful addition of the dill weed. . .it’s a winning combination!
I’m about to have house guests for the next week or so and I’ve made a big batch, as well as my Chex Mix. (We plan to snack. . .a lot!)
I only have one regret where this tasty treat is concerned: I wish I had discovered these delicious snack crackers sooner!
Variations on this Recipe
Don’t have powdered Ranch dressing handy? Create a spice mix of your own using garlic powder, onion powder, seasoning salt, dill, and any other spices you like.
Do a holiday version of this using cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, nutmeg, and so on.
No oyster crackers handy? Premium saltines make a mini square cracker that can be substituted for this savory snack.
Homemade Ranch seasoning: Don’t have Hidden Valley seasoning packets on hand? No worries. You can easily make your own.
Looking for a bit of spice? Add a pinch of your favorite spice (like cayenne pepper) or a dash of red pepper flakes to make spicy ranch oyster crackers. Another alternative would be to add a bit of taco seasoning. Yum!
Change up the oil. Not into vegetable oil? No problem! You can use olive oil, canola oil, or even melted butter.
