Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. (James 1:12)
If you’ve followed me for any length of time you probably already know that I love to make tiered cakes.
I’ve made tiered wedding cakes, anniversary cake, graduation cakes, and birthday cake. They’re exciting and beautiful, if not a little treacherous!
Here are a few pictures of some of my cakes.
Tiering cakes isn’t easy. In fact, it’s such a process that I devoted an entire post to it! There’s a methodology, for sure! If you don’t build it perfectly, the weight on top will crush what’s below.
There’s a great risk if you don’t build on a solid foundation using boards between every tier and boba (bubble tea) straws to hold each tier in place. It’s not easy to tier a cake, for sure!
And that’s what I wanted to share in this little devotion.
Sometimes, Life is Like a Tiered Cake
Sometimes, things get stacked up. Health problems. Financial problems. Job-related issues. Relational problems.
Sometimes these individual crises are like the various tiers of a cake, one piling on top of the other. And often, when it gets like that, you’ll be tempted to give up.
Remember the comments above about how there’s a methodology to building a cake? The same is true with your spiritual life.
God is Your Foundation
If you start with the most solid foundation of all–a relationship with Him, then you’re on safe ground, no matter what comes your way. And just like the Boba straws I use in my cake tiers, God’s “structure” will hold you in place.
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. (Matthew 7:24-25)
Build your life on the rock. Build on Him. And friend, even when crises come your way, you won’t waver.
