If you love soft, chewy cookies loaded with chocolate and crunchy cookie pieces, you're going to flip over these adorable Cookie Monster Cookies! They're bright blue, filled with Oreos, Chips Ahoy, and milk chocolate chips, and topped with the cutest little candy eyeballs.
And here's the best part: They're not just cute. They're absolutely delicious!
A Sweet Cookie Monster Memory

A couple of years ago, I had the best time decorating my vehicle like Cookie Monster for a trunk-or-treat event at our inner-city outreach. I used blue tissue paper, giant googly eyes, and oversized chocolate chip cookie decorations to transform the back of my vehicle into that lovable blue monster.
I even prepared much of the display ahead of time on foam boards, which made setting everything up so much easier.
We weren't able to have our fall festival this year, and I've been missing some of that fun. So when I saw these bright blue Cookie Monster cookies going viral online, I couldn't resist giving them a try.
Making them brought back such happy memories!
And can I just say? These cookies turned out even better than I expected. They're thick, soft, and packed with delicious surprises. The goofy little eyeballs are just the icing on the cake. Or, in this case, the cookies!

What Are Cookie Monster Cookies?

Cookie Monster cookies are oversized blue cookies inspired by the beloved cookie-loving character from Sesame Street.
They're usually made with a soft chocolate chip cookie dough that's tinted blue and loaded with additional cookies, especially Oreos and chocolate chip cookies.
Some versions have a cookie stuffed inside, but I decided to keep mine simple. I broke up Oreos and Chips Ahoy, stirred some into the dough, and pressed additional pieces into the tops before baking.
I also added milk chocolate chips, which turned out to be a terrific decision.
The finished cookies have a soft, tender interior, little bits of crunch from the two kinds of cookies, and creamy pockets of melted milk chocolate.
They're a delightful combination of textures!
And those candy eyeballs? They're not just cute. They're tasty, too!
Why You'll Love These Cookie Monster Cookies

There's so much to love about this fun recipe!
First, they're adorable. That bright blue color and those silly little eyes make them impossible to resist. They're perfect for birthday parties, Halloween celebrations, bake sales, and Cookie Monster-themed events.
Second, they're loaded with goodies. Instead of an ordinary chocolate chip cookie, you're getting two different kinds of crunchy cookies and plenty of creamy milk chocolate.
Third, the texture is wonderful. A little instant pudding mix helps create a soft, tender cookie that holds its shape beautifully.
And finally, they're surprisingly easy to make. No complicated decorating, no cookie stuffing, and no frosting required.
Just mix, chill, bake, and add the eyeballs!
Ingredients for Cookie Monster Cookies

You'll find a full printable recipe card at the bottom of this post, but here's a quick look at what you'll need.
Cookie Dough
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup light brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 large egg yolk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2.1 ounces dry cookies-and-cream instant pudding mix (half of a 4.2-ounce box)
- Blue gel food coloring, as needed
Mix-Ins and Decorations
- ½ cup milk chocolate chips
- Broken Oreo cookies, as desired
- Broken Chips Ahoy cookies, as desired
- Edible candy eyeballs
A Few Ingredient Notes
Butter: I used very soft, room-temperature butter for these cookies. You don't need to melt it. Softened butter makes it easy to cream everything together while giving the cookies some structure.
Brown sugar: This adds moisture and helps create that soft, chewy texture.
Extra egg yolk: The additional yolk adds richness and tenderness.
Cookies-and-cream pudding: This is the secret ingredient! You'll add the dry pudding powder directly to the dough. Do not prepare the pudding according to the package directions.
Milk chocolate chips: I deliberately chose milk chocolate instead of semisweet. The softer, creamier chocolate provides a lovely contrast to the crunchy Oreos and Chips Ahoy.
Blue food coloring: Gel coloring is my preference because it produces a vibrant color without adding much liquid.
Candy eyeballs: These are essential for the Cookie Monster look! I recommend adding them after baking so they don't burn or discolor in the oven.
How to Make Cookie Monster Cookies
These cookies come together easily, though you'll want to allow about 30 minutes for chilling the dough.
Step 1: Cream the Butter and Sugars

Place your softened butter in a large mixing bowl and beat until creamy.
Add the granulated sugar and brown sugar, mixing until well combined and fluffy.
Step 2: Add the Wet Ingredients
Add the whole egg, additional egg yolk, and vanilla extract. Mix until everything is incorporated.

Step 3: Add the Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and dry cookies-and-cream pudding mix.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until a soft cookie dough forms.
Step 4: Turn the Dough Blue

Add blue gel food coloring, a little at a time, mixing until you reach that signature Cookie Monster blue. You want a nice, vibrant color because these cookies are supposed to be playful!
Step 5: Add the Cookies and Chocolate
Break your Oreos and Chips Ahoy into small chunks. Don't pulverize them into crumbs. You want pieces large enough to provide some crunch.
Fold the broken cookies and most of the milk chocolate chips into the blue dough.
Reserve some cookie chunks and chocolate chips for decorating the tops.
Step 6: Chill the Dough
Cover the dough and refrigerate for approximately 30 minutes.
This helps firm up the softened butter and keeps the cookies from spreading too much in the oven.
Step 7: Scoop and Decorate

Preheat your oven to 350°F.
Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Scoop the chilled dough into generous balls and place them several inches apart.
Gently press additional Oreo pieces, Chips Ahoy chunks, and chocolate chips into the tops.
Don't add the candy eyeballs just yet!
Step 8: Bake

Bake at 350°F for 11–12 minutes, or until the edges are set and the centers are still slightly soft.
Because the cookies are blue, you won't be able to judge doneness by their golden color. Watch the texture instead.
Step 9: Add the Eyeballs

As soon as the cookies come out of the oven, gently press two candy eyeballs into each warm cookie. I like placing them at slightly different angles so every cookie has its own silly expression.
Let the cookies rest on the baking sheet for 5–10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. That's it! Your Cookie Monster cookies are ready to enjoy!

What Do Cookie Monster Cookies Taste Like?
Oh, friends. These are so much more than a cute novelty cookie!
The cookie itself has a lovely soft interior. It's tender, thick, and rich, with a little chewiness.

Then you bite into a piece of Oreo or Chips Ahoy and get that wonderful crunch.
And just when you think it can't get any better, you hit one of those pockets of creamy melted milk chocolate.
That's what makes these cookies special. The contrast between the soft cookie, crunchy mix-ins, and melty chocolate is absolutely delightful.
I was especially glad I chose milk chocolate chips. They give the cookies a creamy sweetness that works beautifully with the other ingredients.
Even the little candy eyeballs add a fun, sweet bite!
Tips for Perfect Cookie Monster Cookies

Use softened butter, not hot melted butter. Room-temperature butter gives the dough a better starting texture.
Don't skip the pudding mix. It contributes to the soft, tender texture that makes these cookies so good.
Use gel food coloring. You'll get a deeper blue without thinning the dough.
Leave some cookie chunks fairly large. Those visible pieces make the finished cookies more interesting and provide a wonderful crunch.
Chill the dough. Thirty minutes worked well for this batch.
Don't overbake. The cookies should still look slightly soft in the centers when you remove them from the oven.
Add the eyeballs after baking. Candy eyeballs can scorch or discolor in the oven. Pressing them into the cookies while they're warm works beautifully.
Fun Variations

There are so many ways to put your own spin on these cookies.
Stuffed Cookie Monster Cookies
Some versions of this viral recipe have an entire Oreo or chocolate chip cookie tucked inside the dough. If you want an extra surprise, you could try stuffing yours before baking. Larger stuffed cookies may need additional baking time.
Semisweet Chocolate Chips
If you prefer a less-sweet chocolate flavor, swap the milk chocolate chips for semisweet.
Mini Cookie Monster Cookies
Make smaller cookies for children's parties or dessert trays. Just remember to reduce the baking time.
Different Colored Monsters
Who says monsters have to be blue? You could make green, purple, or orange cookies for a colorful Halloween party.
In fact, I have another easy monster cookie recipe made with white cake mix that's perfect for creating a whole collection of colorful little monsters!
Extra Cookie Crunch
Press additional broken cookies into the tops before baking for an even more dramatic presentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do Cookie Monster cookies have pudding mix?
Instant pudding mix helps create a soft, tender texture and adds flavor. In this recipe, cookies-and-cream pudding is especially appropriate because it complements the Oreo pieces.
Do I prepare the pudding before adding it?
No! Add the pudding powder directly to the cookie dough. Do not mix it with milk first.
Can I use vanilla pudding instead?
Yes. Vanilla instant pudding should work as a substitute, though you'll lose some of the cookies-and-cream flavor.
Can I use regular food coloring instead of gel?
Yes, but gel coloring is preferable because it's more concentrated. Liquid coloring may require more drops and can slightly change the consistency of the dough.
Why are my cookies spreading too much?
The butter may have been too warm, or the dough may not have chilled long enough. Try refrigerating the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
Can I add the candy eyeballs before baking?
I wouldn't recommend it. I've had candy eyeballs burn in the oven before. Adding them immediately after baking keeps them looking bright and cute.
Can I freeze Cookie Monster cookies?
Yes! You can freeze fully cooled cookies in an airtight, freezer-safe container for up to 2–3 months for best quality. Thaw at room temperature before serving.
How should I store leftover cookies?
Store completely cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for approximately 3–4 days. Place parchment paper between layers if needed to protect the decorations.
Are Cookie Monster cookies just for Halloween?
Not at all! These would be adorable for a Cookie Monster birthday party, a Sesame Street-themed celebration, a school event, or just a fun baking day with the kids.
Thanks for Stopping By!

I hope you've enjoyed this fun little Cookie Monster adventure!
What started as a viral cookie recipe turned into a sweet trip down memory lane for me. I couldn't help thinking about that big blue Cookie Monster I created for our outreach trunk-or-treat event a couple of years ago.
And now I've got a whole plate of little blue monsters staring back at me from the kitchen counter!
But the best part? These cookies taste every bit as good as they look.
If you give them a try, I'd love to hear how they turn out for you. And if you have little ones helping in the kitchen, be sure to let them arrange the candy eyeballs. That's half the fun!
Happy baking, friends!
